At Te Mata House, our goal is to look after every detail, providing you with a warm welcome, a heavenly stay and enduring memories. To help make that magic happen, we’ve curated some of our own favourite amenities and experiences, working with premium partners to make your visit to Hawke’s Bay extra special.
TOILETRIES & LINEN
Our comfortable beds are topped with crisp cotton sheets and high-quality down duvets - a joy to slide in to at the end of a busy day. And in the bathroom and kitchen, you’ll find local body-care brand, Real World, who supply us with shower gel, body lotion, hand wash, dishwashing and laundry liquid. Real World’s plant-based range is toxin and chemical free, and beautiful to use.
SWIMMING POOL & SPA
Take a cool dip, or enjoy a soak in the spa. Our 18m pool is elevated to catch the sun but well sheltered from the wind. Rinse off under the outdoor shower, collapse into our luxury loungers and relax with a Nespresso coffee. The pool and pool house are available to guests by appointment. Please note, you may be sharing the pool with other guests or the owner, and at times the pool may be closed during guest hours if the pool house is in use for events.
BIKES
Grab one of our townie bikes, available exclusively for guests, and pedal out gates to explore our incredible region. Hawke’s Bay is renowned for its well-maintained network of flat, safe bike trails, leading to interesting vineyards, villages, restaurants and rivers. Some trails are still under repair following Cyclone Gabrielle.

TENNIS COURT
Our full-sized flood-lit, turf court is quiet, sheltered and uniquely positioned adjacent to grape vines on one side and a picturesque lavender field on the other. A perfect location to better your backhand. Enjoy access to our court at any time during your stay, with rackets and balls available for your use.
SCHOOLHOUSE
The original Chambers family’s schoolhouse has been lovingly converted into a whimsical children’s art room. Packed full of dress ups and play dough, pens, paints and a chalkboard to scribble on, your children are free to entertain themselves and unleash their creativity. You might even take home an original work or two.
TREEHOUSE
Climb, clamber, explore, imagine! The treehouse of every child’s dreams exists right here at Te Mata House. Featuring interconnecting platforms, ropes and nets, ladders, a flying fox and trampoline, your children will love this play area nestled under mature elm trees. Please note: adult supervision is required at all times.
GARDEN GAMES
Our selection of solidly constructed outdoor games are made locally, wherever possible, and are a great way to connect and unwind with family or friends. Choose a set, find a worthy opponent and head down to the lawn - all instructions are included.
OUTDOOR RELAX
We’ve made it simple to enjoy the many picturesque spots dotted around our heritage property. Grab the picnic rug in your room, a glass of wine and pick your favourite - whether it’s under the sprawling oak tree, on the large lawn in front of the homestead or next to the white wisteria pergola.
EXTRAS
BRING YOUR HORSE
Te Mata House offers equine lovers the unique experience of bringing their animals on neighcation! Our equestrian facilities offer two full-size stables, a large and well-equipped tack room, wash pad, corral and yards, as well as ample parking for horse floats or trucks. Your animals will graze in our well-grassed paddocks and we offer use of a fully groomed lime-sand dressage arena. Find more information here.
