The Cottage At Te Mata House

The day before the wedding, The Cottage warmly welcomes the bride and her bridesmaids for a night of rest, relaxation and fun. The party exclusively enjoys the peace and tranquility of the property on their special night together, and the next day, The Cottage is the perfect place to prepare. After the wedding event, The Cottage transforms into a romantic retreat for the newly-married couple to honeymoon!

This one-level cottage has a gas fireplace in the living room, an open dining room, and a fully equipped kitchen. It also has a private backyard with a cedar hot tub and a Baby Weber BBQ. The fully equipped kitchen includes a fridge, freezer, toaster, kettle, Miele induction stovetop, and Miele microwave oven.

The master bedroom features a Super King bed with double wardrobes. The master ensuite includes a shower, dual vanity, and toilet. The second bedroom has a Super King bed with a single wardrobe. There is a shared bathroom that includes a shower, single vanity, and toilet. All bathrooms have natural toiletries, hairdryers, rain shower heads, underfloor heating, and heated towel rails. The Cottage can comfortably accommodate up to 4 people, and a roll-away bed is available if required. Both super King beds can change to singles.

Our comfortable beds are topped with crisp cotton sheets and high-quality down duvets—a joy to slide into at the end of a busy day. In the bathroom and kitchen, you’ll find local body care brand Real World, who batch-make our shower gel, body lotion, handwash, dishwashing liquid, and laundry liquid in Hastings. Real World’s plant-based range is toxin-free, chemical-free, and beautiful to use.

Pool

Our 18m pool is elevated to catch the sun but well sheltered from the wind. Rinse off under the outdoor shower, collapse into our luxury loungers and relax with a Nespresso coffee or a glass of champagne. The pool and pool house are available to the bridal party staying on site the day before the wedding. The pool and pool house are not for use during the wedding or after party event due to health and safety regulations.

Tennis Court

Our full-sized floodlit turf court is quiet, sheltered, and uniquely positioned. Adjacent to grape vines on one side and a charming lavender field on the other, what better location to perfect your backhand? The bridal party can enjoy access to the court the day before the wedding. The court is not for use during the wedding or after party event.

Garden Games

Our selection of solidly constructed outdoor games are made locally wherever possible. They are a great way for the bridal party to connect and unwind. Choose a set, find your worthy opponents and head down to the lawn. All instructions are included and bragging rights assured!

Outdoor

We’ve made it simple to enjoy the many picturesque spots dotted around our heritage property. The night before the wedding, the bridal party are encouraged to grab the picnic rug in The Cottage, a glass of bubbles and pick your favourite spot!

Getting to Te Mata House

Hawke’s Bay is situated on the east coast of the North Island, around a six-hour drive from Auckland. The nearest airport for domestic and international air transfers is Auckland Airport, while the local Napier Airport offers connections to Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch.

Our luxury accommodation is a 25-minute drive from Napier Airport.

Guests who drive can expect a six-hour road trip from Auckland, a four-hour drive from Wellington, or a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Rotorua.
